Tampa Butoh

Happy to announce the launch of a butoh course thanks to the help of the pleasant staff at Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation. I will have regular butoh classes in one of only two dance studios belonging to the county. But what’s also fantastic is that the studio is within All People’s Community Park which will give us the opportunity to venture out of the studio and explore together creatively.

To Adam, butoh is a means to re-adopt the body and break out of the various limiting habits modern society has thrusted upon it. The body is an enigma and an entire universe full of wonder, and both surface and shadow are made to eventually dance together in harmony.

Adam’s butoh guiding draws on exercises and perspectives emphasizing the body-mind connection, improvisation, imagination, shamanic motifs, and unlearning.

The guiding will cultivate individual deep creation within and is crafted in such a way that both beginners and experienced participants can gain material to construct their own personal butoh body. No experience of any prior discipline needed.

Participants will also gain the ability to dive further or refresh themselves with any material via the virtual Shadowbody Butoh Manual available for free at https://butohmanual.com. The manual is the result of nearly 6 years of compiled research and exploration.

Come with comfortable clothes to move in. No shoes in class.
